Hotpoint dryer error f06

F06 Error in Hotpoint Tumble Dryers

What the F06 error means in a Hotpoint tumble dryer

The F06 error in Hotpoint tumble dryers is usually related to a fault in the door locking system. The machine does not correctly detect that the door has been locked and, because of that, it may refuse to start the programme or stop as soon as it tries to begin.

It is not always caused by a broken lock. Sometimes it is enough for there to be lint in the latch, a misaligned door or a closure that is not making proper contact. When that happens, the tumble dryer interprets that it is not safe to start.

Usually, one of these things happens:

  • The door seems to close, but the cycle does not start
  • The display shows F06 as soon as you press start
  • You notice that the latch does not catch properly or you have to insist too much

How to check F06 before requesting assistance

With this code, it is best to focus on the physical door closure and rule out a temporary detection issue. If the warning continues after checking that, then it is usually time to inspect the lock or wiring.

  1. Turn off and reset the tumble dryer
    • Unplug it from the power supply for 2 minutes
    • Plug it back in
    • Try again with the door properly closed
  2. Open and inspect the latch area
    • Look for lint, threads or debris in the latch
    • Also check the part of the cabinet where the door fits
    • Any small obstruction can prevent the lock from being detected correctly
  3. Close it firmly, but without forcing it
    • Test it by closing it normally
    • Check whether you hear the locking click
    • If it only starts sometimes or you need to push harder than usual, something is not working properly

The idea is to confirm whether the fault is constant or intermittent

  4. Check that the door is not misaligned
    • See whether it sits straight when closed
    • If a hinge has dropped or the door sits unevenly, the sensor may fail to recognise the lock
    • That small misalignment can already be enough to trigger F06 in some cases
  5. Do not keep testing it if the error repeats in the same way
    • Avoid slamming the door or making repeated attempts
    • If the fault appears in exactly the same way each time, it is best to stop there

Forcing the closure can make the lock problem worse

  6. When to leave it to a technician
    • F06 keeps appearing after cleaning and checking the latch
    • The door does not lock properly or does not feel secure
    • The programme never starts even though the closure seems correct

In that case, the door lock, the microswitch or the wiring linked to the locking system is usually checked

If F06 was caused by dirt or a one-off closure problem, the tumble dryer may work again after these checks. When the warning persists, the most effective step is usually to inspect the locking system before the door lock fails completely
