Hotpoint dryer error f03

F03 Error in Hotpoint Dryers

What the F03 error usually means on a Hotpoint dryer

The F03 error on Hotpoint dryers is usually associated with a temperature sensing fault. In practice, the appliance is not reading the temperature as expected and may go into protection mode: the drying cycle stops, it does not heat, or the program becomes blocked to avoid operating without proper thermal control.

It is usually noticed like this:

  • The dryer does not heat or heats very little
  • The cycle stops shortly after starting and the code appears
  • The fault appears when the appliance tries to enter the heating phase

How to clear F03 and what to check before calling for service

With F03, it is important to rule out a temporary control issue and make sure there is good airflow, because heat and temperature readings depend on it. If the error returns, the thermal circuit usually needs technical inspection.

  1. Complete power reset
    • Turn off the dryer
    • Unplug it for at least 2 minutes
    • Plug it back in, wait 30 seconds, and test a cycle
  2. Clean filters and ensure proper airflow
    • Clean the lint filter before testing
    • If it is a condenser dryer, empty the tank and check that nothing is blocked
    • Avoid placing the dryer in a tight space without ventilation

Poor airflow raises temperatures and can trigger protection mode or erratic readings

  3. Test with a small load
    • Run a test with a half load
    • If the error only appears with a heavy load, the system may be working under excessive strain
  4. Do not repeat attempts continuously if the code returns
    • If it goes into protection mode, let it rest for a few minutes before trying again
    • Note whether F03 appears at startup or after X minutes, as this can help technical service
  5. When it is advisable to call technical service/a technician
    • F03 reappears after a reset and filter cleaning
    • It never heats or always stops in the same way
    • The appliance goes into protection mode even though ventilation is correct

In that case, the temperature system (sensors/thermostats) and heating control are usually checked, because the issue is no longer just maintenance-related

If F03 was only a temporary lock-up, the reset may solve it. If it keeps repeating, the most efficient solution is to inspect the temperature circuit so the dryer can heat and dry normally again
