What the F02 error indicates on a Hotpoint dryer

The F02 error on Hotpoint dryers usually points to a motor circuit fault. In practical terms, the appliance detects that the motor is not turning the drum as it should (no rotation, intermittent rotation, or abnormal response) and goes into protection mode to prevent damage.

You will usually notice one of these symptoms:

• The drum does not turn or tries to start and then stops
• The cycle starts, but the movement is irregular
• The error appears right at startup or when more rotation is required

How to clear F02 and what to check so it does not happen again

With F02, it is best to rule out simple causes first (load, blockage, and reset). If the code remains, the motor and its control system usually need to be checked.

1. Complete reset
   • Turn off the dryer
   • Unplug it for 2 minutes
   • Plug it back in and test a short cycle
2. Reduce the load and avoid items that may “block” rotation
   • Try with a half load
   • Avoid drying a single very heavy item (wet duvet, bath mat), as it can overload startup
3. Check drum rotation by hand (dryer switched off)
   • It should turn without strong resistance
   • If it rubs or jams, there may be a mechanical blockage triggering the fault
4. Avoid unstable power supplies
   • Use a direct, firm wall outlet
   • If there are micro power cuts, wait a while and test again
5. When it is advisable to call technical service/a technician
   • F02 reappears even with a small load and after a reset
   • The drum never turns or always stops in the same way
   • There are abnormal noises when it tries to start

   In that case, the usual step is to check the motor, wiring, and associated control electronics, because the dryer is detecting a real fault in the drive circuit
