Hotpoint dryer error f08

F08 Error in Hotpoint Dryers

What the F08 error usually indicates in a Hotpoint dryer

The F08 error in Hotpoint dryers is usually related to the heating system or the thermal protection that controls heat. In practice, the machine detects that the temperature is not being generated or regulated as it should and stops the drying cycle to protect the appliance.

It usually shows up with:

  • The dryer does not heat or heats very little
  • The cycle stops halfway through and the code appears
  • Very long drying times with clothes still damp

How to clear F08 and what to check so it does not happen again

With F08, it is a good idea to first rule out airflow restrictions (which can trigger protection systems) and then perform a reset. If the fault remains stable, it usually requires inspection of the thermal circuit.

  1. Let it cool down and perform a full power reset
    • Turn off the dryer and wait 15–20 minutes if it was very hot
    • Unplug it for 2 minutes
    • Plug it back in, wait 30 seconds and try a short cycle
  2. Clean filters and improve airflow
    • Clean the lint filter
    • If it is a condenser/heat pump model, clean the condenser/heat exchanger if your model allows it
    • Leave ventilation space around it, without enclosing it

Poor airflow can make the thermal system behave abnormally and trigger protection mode

  3. Test with a moderate load
    • Half load to avoid forcing the drying process
    • If the error only appears with a heavy load, the unit may be going into protection mode
  4. When it is advisable to call technical support/a technician
    • F08 reappears after resetting and thorough cleaning
    • It never heats or always stops at the same point
    • You notice excessive heat, a hot smell, or repeated shutdowns

In that case, the heating system, thermostats/sensors, and the electronics related to temperature control are usually checked

F08 is often resolved when the problem was caused by poor ventilation or a temporary blockage. If it keeps appearing with a clean circuit, the most efficient solution is a diagnosis of the thermal system to restore stable drying
