Error F11 on Hotpoint washing machines

What the F11 error means on a Hotpoint washing machine
The F11 error on Hotpoint washing machines usually points to a fault in the pump circuit. In practice, the machine detects that water isn’t being pumped out as it should and stops the program to prevent the drum from staying full of water or the cycle continuing without draining.
Typical symptoms match this code very well:
- The wash stops and there is water left inside
- It won’t reach the spin cycle, or it cancels it
- The door may remain locked until the unit tries to drain
- You can hear the pump humming, but the water doesn’t drain or drains very little
How to clear F11 and what to check so it doesn’t come back
With F11 the goal is simple: restore draining. Start with the most common blockages (filter and outlet) and move on to the pump if the fault persists.
- Work safely and get ready to collect water
- Turn the washing machine off and unplug it
- Place towels and a container: when you open the filter, water usually comes out
- Clean the pump filter
- Open the lower flap and unscrew the cap little by little
- Remove lint, coins, hairpins, or any debris
- Screw the filter back in firmly (don’t cross-thread it or leave it loose)
In most cases, the problem is here: a simple blockage prevents the pump from draining
- Check the drain hose and the drain point
- Make sure the hose isn’t kinked, crushed, or pinched
- Check that the siphon/drain pipe isn’t clogged
- If the hose is pushed too far in or sealed, correct it to avoid poor draining
- Test a drain or spin cycle with the drum empty
- Select drain only or spin
- If it drains normally, the error should disappear
- If it doesn’t drain and you only hear a hum, the pump may be blocked or damaged
- Full reset to clear the error state
- Leave the washing machine unplugged for 2–5 minutes
- Plug it back in and try a short cycle
- When it’s worth calling a technician
- F11 returns even though the filter is clean and the drain path is clear
- The pump won’t move water, makes unusual noises, or gets stuck
- The fault always appears at the same point in the program
In that case, it usually means checking the pump, connections, and the related circuit, because it’s no longer a basic maintenance blockage
If F11 was caused by an obstruction, it’s usually fixed by cleaning the filter and ensuring the water outlet is clear. If it comes back with everything unobstructed, the most efficient next step is to inspect the pump and circuit to eliminate the root cause
