F05 error on Indesit dryers

Error F05 in Indesit dryers

What error F05 usually means on an Indesit dryer

Error F05 on an Indesit dryer is usually related to a drainage blockage or a problem with the pump. When this warning appears, the appliance detects that the water is not draining as it should, so the cycle may stop, remain unfinished or end with water still inside the drum.

It is a fault that is usually quite noticeable in the final behaviour of the machine. In some cases, the door does not open when the programme finishes; in others, it can be opened, but the inside still retains water. That already gives a clear clue that the draining process has not been completed correctly.

The most common signs are usually these:

  • The dryer does not finish the cycle normally
  • The door does not unlock at the end of the programme
  • It can be opened, but there is still water inside
  • The same warning appears again when you try to use it another time

For that reason, this code usually points more towards an issue with water evacuation than to a temperature problem, drum rotation fault or programme selection issue.

How to check F05 if the dryer is not draining properly

If you see F05 on the display, the most sensible thing to do is focus on the water outlet and avoid running consecutive programmes if the appliance still does not drain correctly. With this type of fault, insisting too many times does not usually solve anything if the blockage or fault is still present.

  1. Switch off the appliance before checking anything
    • Stop the programme if it is still running
    • Carry out any checks with the machine stopped
    • If you suspect there is water inside, open it carefully when the appliance allows you to do so
  2. Check the pump filter if your model allows it
    • Look for fluff, dirt or small objects blocking the passage
    • Check the manual if you are not sure where it is located
    • A blockage there can prevent the water from draining normally
  3. Look at the outlet hose and the drain
    • Make sure the hose is not bent, crushed or blocked
    • Also check the drain connection or the plumbing under the sink if it drains there
    • A blockage outside the machine can also cause this error
  4. Do not run more tests if the water still does not drain
    • If F05 keeps coming back, repeating attempts will rarely change the result
    • When the pump fails or the outlet remains blocked, the appliance will detect it again
  5. When it is best to request technical assistance
    • The filter and outlet seem clear, but the error continues
    • The dryer still retains water at the end of the cycle
    • The door still does not open normally because of the drainage problem

At that point, the most useful thing is to report the exact code F05 so that the inspection is focused from the beginning on the pump and the drainage system

If F05 is caused by a temporary blockage, cleaning the outlet may be enough to restore normal operation. If it appears again after these checks, the most reasonable step is to inspect the pump and evacuation circuit thoroughly to find the real cause of the problem.
