E21 Error on Teka Induction Hobs

What the E21 error means on a Teka induction hob

The E21 error on a Teka induction hob usually appears when the system detects overheating in the control electronics, not so much in the cooking zone as in the area where power management and internal communication are handled. It is a thermal protection code that prevents the hob from continuing to operate under conditions that could damage components.

Unlike other more obvious thermal errors, E21 typically shows up in scenarios such as:

  • Prolonged use of several zones at high power.
  • Continuous operation with poor ventilation in the cabinet.
  • Very tight installations with insufficient space to dissipate heat.
  • Combined use of an oven and the hob for long periods.

When the temperature in the electronics exceeds the safe threshold, the hob stops operating and displays E21 to prevent heat from damaging the control module or the power system.

In most cases, the error does not indicate an immediate fault, but rather that the hob is operating at the limit of its cooling capacity.

How to fix the E21 error on your Teka induction hob

Before considering a repair, it is worth following a series of steps aimed at reducing temperature and improving the hob’s operating conditions.

  1. Turn off the hob and let it cool down completely
    • Switch off all cooking zones.
    • Wait at least 20 minutes before turning it back on.
    • Do not attempt quick resets while it is still hot.
  2. Perform a power reset
    • Turn off the circuit breaker for 2–3 minutes.
    • Restore power once the hob is cold.

This clears electronic lockouts after a thermal protection event.

  3. Check the cabinet ventilation
    • Make sure the air inlets and outlets are not blocked.
    • Remove items from the lower drawer if they are touching the underside of the hob.
    • Check that the recess is not excessively sealed.
  4. Avoid intensive simultaneous use
    • Do not keep multiple zones at maximum power for a long time.
    • Reduce continuous use of Boost-type functions.
    • If there is an oven underneath, alternate its use with the hob.
  5. Check whether the fan is working properly
    • It is normal for the fan to keep running after you turn the hob off.
    • If you never hear it or it makes unusual noises, cooling may be insufficient.
  6. Observe whether the error comes back when cold
    • If E21 reappears when the hob is cold and at low power, there may be a real cooling issue.
    • If it only appears after prolonged use, it is usually related to installation or ventilation.
  7. When it is advisable to call technical service
    • The E21 error appears frequently even with moderate use.
    • The hob locks within a few minutes of switching on.
    • The fan does not run, or the hob overheats excessively from underneath.

In these cases, it may be necessary to inspect the fan, thermal sensors, or the control module.

  8. Measures to prevent it from happening again
    • Keep the area beneath the hob clear.
    • Do not fit the induction hob too tightly—respect the required clearances.
    • Spread cooking load over time.

When the E21 error appears occasionally after demanding use, it is usually just normal thermal protection. If it becomes recurring, it indicates the hob is not dissipating heat effectively and it is worth correcting before it leads to a more serious fault.
