ER02 Error on Teka Ceramic Hobs

What the ER02 error means on a Teka ceramic hob
The ER02 error on a Teka ceramic hob typically appears when the hob enters overheating protection and, as a safety measure, cuts communication at the end of a control cycle. In practical terms: the electronics detect that the control temperature is above a safe margin and it locks to prevent damage.
This code usually shows up in a fairly recognizable context:
- After using several zones at high power for a while.
- With a very enclosed cabinet or poor ventilation underneath.
- When there is an oven below adding heat and the hob runs continuously.
- In very hot kitchens (summer, poor extraction) where heat builds up under the glass.
In short: ER02 usually does not point to “a button” or a one-off user mistake, but to a situation where the hob protects itself because the electronics are getting hotter than they should.
How to clear ER02 and what to check so it doesn’t come back
The most effective approach with ER02 is to follow a sequence that first reduces temperature and then rules out heat build-up causes. You do not need to dismantle anything for the initial steps.
- Stop using it and let the hob cool down completely
- Switch off all zones.
- Wait 20–30 minutes before trying to turn it on again.
- Avoid repeated on/off attempts while it is still hot.
ER02 often clears once the electronics return to a normal temperature.
- Do a “real” electrical reset
- Switch off the circuit breaker for the hob circuit.
- Wait 3–5 minutes.
- Restore power and test a single zone at medium power.
- Improve cabinet ventilation (critical point for ER02)
- Remove items from the drawer below if they are pressed against the underside of the hob.
- Make sure the cut-out is not “sealed” with no air intake/outlet.
- If the hob is installed very tight, check that recommended clearances are respected.
- If there is an oven below, separate the tests
- Test the hob with the oven switched off.
- If ER02 only appears when both are used together, the issue is usually heat build-up in the cabinet.
- Reduce the load for a while and watch the pattern
- Avoid prolonged maximum power (high power continuously on several zones).
- Alternate zones and lower power during long stretches.
- On very hot days, cook with steadier power levels and avoid long “peaks”.
- When it makes sense to call a technician
- ER02 appears when the hob is cold or within seconds of switching on.
- It repeats with moderate use and correct ventilation.
- You notice frequent cut-outs without using high power.
In those cases, the control temperature and associated electronics are typically checked, because the system may be misreading temperature or entering protection too early.
If ER02 was a one-off episode due to heat build-up, it is usually resolved by cooling down and improving ventilation. If it returns easily, the key is to check installation and thermal control before the lock-out becomes routine.
